Chapter 16: The North Pacific Coast

Urban Traffic in San Diego

Like all other California cities, San Diego's freeway system is unable to handle the massive amounts of traffic. As the amount of homes that are being built within the county increases, so does the number of cars fighting for space on the roads. San Diego does however have a much more developed public transportation system. The light-rail trolley, and bus routes cover quite an extensive amount of area. Taking advantage of the Amtrak rail lines, the Coaster runs trains from downtown up into the North County Oceanside area. Buses, while they have their own routes, accents the rail system by providing transportation between rail lines. Although the transit system is well in place, the main problem is getting the majority of San Diegans to use it.
