Chapter 8: Appalachia and the Ozarks

San Diego differs from Appalachia and the Ozarks in topography, culture, and economic patterns. The topography of San Diego contains coastal plains, valleys, mountains and canyons.
The wide cultural range stems from the many ethnic groups that have made the area their home.

With small farms and mining supporting the Appalachian economy, San Diego relies on technology/communication, biotechnology, and tourism. Whereas the city itself is not agriculturally productive, several areas in San Diego county are. Due to it's Mediterranean- like climate, San Diego county is nationally, the number one producer of avocados and nursery crops.
