The city of San Diego is situated within the southwest border area. It's close proximity to the border and Pacific coast location have allowed the conglomeration of many different ethnic cultures. Evidence of the numerous cultures can be seen throughout the city in distinct neighborhoods. Furthermore, San Diego is home to several military bases thus adding to it's ethnic diversity.
As California's second largest city, San Diego's mild climate and relatively laid-back lifestyle has made it a popular choice for relocation by people of all ages. While the effects of urbanization has been felt across the city, San Diego has still managed to retain it's unique qualities that separates it from other large coastal cities.
